Sustainability seal

As part of our innovative and eco-friendly efforts, the company of wine peopleTM is among the first wine producers in South Africa to use the new sustainability seal on its 2010 vintage wines.

This seal forms part a voluntary environmental sustainability scheme, namely Sustainable Wine South Africa (SWSA), which meets international sustainability standards set for the wine industry, and ensures consumers that the wine produced is eco-friendly.

In order to qualify to use the new sustainability seal, reported to be a world first, every link in the chain of production (vineyard, winery, bottling) must first be independently audited. All the company of wine people’sTM suppliers are certified as well.

The sustainability seal certifies that:

-       information such as the origin, vintage and cultivar of the wine are correct

-       sustainable wine production practices have been employed

-       the wine can be traced from the vine to the final product

-       the wine is 100% proudly South African.

For more information about the new seal, and integrity and sustainability issues, visit Sustainable Wine South Africa at www.swsa.co.za. To view a video on the seal, click here.

Cape Winemakers Guild protégé programme

The aim of the Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) is to ensure that South African winemaker’s receive the recognition they deserve. Membership is by invitation only and membership resides with the winemaker not with their employer. Chief winemaker Nicky Versfeld has been a member of the CWG since 1999.

Proceeds from the annual auction hosted by the CWG is donated to charity. The guild also attempts to ensure transformation in the South African wine industry by mentoring and supporting winemakers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Wines with Heart

Wines with Heart is a project which raises money for charities based in the Cape winelands. It’s a simple concept with a win-win outcome: when you make a donation, you will receive 6 bottles of wines and a need organisation receives the money. Numerous local wine producers support this initiative by donating some of their flagship wines which is then repackaged into a mystery box and sold for a good cause. The following organisations are beneficiaries of the Wines with Heart initiative: Pebbles Project, Association for the Sensory Disabled, Little Angles and FASfacts.
